Why participate in the certificate program?
You’ll become confident in your knowledge and your responsibilities as an unclaimed property professional. The UPPO Unclaimed Property Certificate will allow you to articulate your level of knowledge and competencies to upper management.

Is this a certification program or a certificate program?

The UPPO Unclaimed Property Certificate Program grants the UPPO Unclaimed Property Certificate to participants who successfully complete the program. Unlike certification programs, this program will not provide participants with a designation or accreditation.

What are the requirements to participate in the certificate program?
Be a current UPPO member in good standing, and be working within the unclaimed property industry. Please note no more than four people from one employer may participate in a program tier each year.
Are there multiple certificate tiers?
Yes. UPPO currently offers basic and intermediate tiers. Successful completion (testing out is not an option) of the basic certificate tier is a prerequisite for participation in the intermediate tier.
How do I register to participate in the certificate program?
You can easily register online by completing the UPPO Unclaimed Property Certificate Program application once registration opens on July 11, 2018, at noon CDT.

How are the applications reviewed and accepted?
The applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. There are 105 spots in this year's certificate program: 45 for the basic tier and 60 for the intermediate tier. Please note no more than four people from one employer may participate in a program tier each year.

When does the certificate program begin?

Intermediate tier participants: The first live webinar of the series opens the tier on August 15. The on-demand webinars will be released later in the program year.

When will the certificate program need to be completed?
You must have participated in all educational modules, and successfully passed the applicable evaluations by April 30.

What are the topics covered in the certificate program?
Basic: There are nine topics covered in this tier, which will create a strong compliance foundation for program participants. The topics include: introduction to unclaimed property, unclaimed property vocabulary, reviewing records, dormancy, performing due diligence, reporting and remitting funds timely, priority rules, retaining records, and potential liability for non-compliance. See curriculum page for more details.

Will I need to register for the webinars and Annual Conference?
