Texas Requires Holders to File Reports Electronically Locked Topic 0 Emily DuToit Texas Administrative Code 34.1.13 Rule 21 went into effect Dec. 30, 2013. New Unclaimed Property Contacts in DC, MD, and WV Locked Topic 0 Emily DuToit There have been multiple changes in leadership within states' unclaimed property departments. Please update your records with the below contacts:  Maryland Robert Sheerer is the new assistant director in the unclaimed property division of the Maryland Comptroller's Office. Washington D.C. Lynn Hall is now the unclaimed property supervisor with the District of Columbia Treasurer's office. She previously worked for the State of Maryland. West VirginiaChristina Merbedone has been promoted to assistant director of unclaimed property in West Virginia. The former assistant director, Cindy Hillen, accepted a position with the U.S. Treasury.

Oklahoma Online Reporting Requirements Locked Topic 0 Emily DuToit Oklahoma law requires all businesses, government entities, financial institutions and organizations with abandoned property belonging to Oklahoma residents to file an annual report with the Oklahoma State Treasurer’s Office, Unclaimed Property Division. Most reports are due by Nov. 1. Life insurance companies have until May 1 to report. "Also, we want to make you aware of a new law taking effect on Nov. 1. All Holders with 15 or more items of property will be required to file online. The change is found in 60 O.S. § 661S. But why wait until Nov. 1 to file online? Click here to get started. NAUPA Appoints New Midwestern Regional Vice President Locked Topic 0 Emily DuToit At the Sept. 30, 2013 NAUPA Executive Committee meeting, a new NAUPA Midwestern Regional Vice President was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Wisconsin state administrator, Mary Celentani, because of her retirement from state government. Robert Commodore, senior director in the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Consumer and Industry Services was appointed to fill the vacant role. He will serve as the midwestern regional vice president for the remainder of Celentani's term which is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2013. Indiana Code Changes Effective for Nov. 1 Reporting Deadline Locked Topic 0 Emily DuToit As of July 1, 2013 the changes made to Indiana Code 32-34 Chapter 1 are in effect. According to the guidance letter the Indiana Holder Supervisor, Bill McAfee published, the changes provide consistency to the three-year dormancy period and require all holder companies to submit their report electronically. All changes will be effective for the Nov. 1, 2013 reporting deadline. The letter written by the Indiana Unclaimed Property Division is attached below.

Minnesota Announces Online Holder Reporting Locked Topic 0 Emily DuToit The Minnesota Department of Commerce, Unclaimed Property Division, launched a service that allows holders to report online. This new feature is intended to make reporting easier for holders and lessen the administrative burden. Alberta Delays Reporting of Unclaimed Securities and Safety Deposit Boxes Locked Topic 0 Emily DuToit The Alberta Treasury Board and Finance, Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) is currently reviewing the application of the act and regulation to securities and safety deposit box contents. Due to this review, TRA will delay the act and regulation taking effect on these types of properties for a period of one year. TRA will not require reporting for unclaimed securities and the contents of safety deposit boxes for the 2013 reporting year nor will they accept delivery of these items for the 2013 reporting year. 2013 Virginia Special Notices Locked Topic 0 Emily DuToit Virginia recently posted special notices for holders. Maine is Now Only Accepting Electronic Reports Locked Topic 0 Emily DuToit Maine recently changed its reporting submission requirements, and now will only accept electronic reports.
