CODE OF ETHICS: Members
I. UPPO is a voluntary organization whose mission is:
- To acknowledge the needs of owners as paramount, always seeking to return unclaimed funds to the rightful owner.
- To encourage the enactment of uniform legislation and regulation in the best interest of unclaimed property owners.
- To maintain a high level of ethics, principals, and standards and to avoid conflicts of interests.
- To maintain a forum through which Holders and State Unclaimed Property Officials NAUPA can foster a thorough understanding of unclaimed property owner, system and compliance issues.
- To develop suggestions for minimizing reportable unclaimed property and the cost of compliance while maintaining efficient, accurate and timely reporting.
II. A member, when conducting business on the behalf of UPPO, should not engage in:
- Any illegal act or actions including, but not limited to, bribes, kickbacks, and verbal or written sexual and racial harassment.
- Any activity that would represent an actual or perceived conflict of interest between the UPPO and the member. This would include, but is not limited to, the un-authorized soliciting of business by a member or another associate from their company with current or potential UPPO members unless the member is appropriately exhibiting at a UPPO-sponsored event and follows the UPPO code of ethics for service providers and vendors.
- Making disparaging remarks about another member or his or her organization.
III. UPPO property including but not limited to a UPPO membership list or UPPO logo, or member's position or status within UPPO, shall NOT be used by any person or organization for any purpose unrelated to an official function of the UPPO. Without limiting the foregoing, a UPPO membership list or logo or any other UPPO property shall NOT be:
- Used to solicit business.
- Used for any purpose which the user does not reasonably and in good faith believe will benefit the UPPO or its members
- Used for any commercial purpose or purpose in business competition
- Sold or purchased by any person or member of their company.
Note, however, that a member company may indicate its membership in the UPPO in the company's publications, website or other media produced by or for the member company but the indication shall not be written in such a manner that a reasonable person would construe it as an endorsement by UPPO of the company or of any individual associated with the company.
IV. Any member found to have violated the provisions of paragraphs II or III above may have their UPPO membership and/or UPPO Board or committee chair position revoked in accordance with Roberts Rules of Order.

CODE OF ETHICS: Service Providers
*Service Providers agree to the member code above as well as:
I. Service providers agree that when conducting business on the behalf of UPPO or when participating in a UPPO –sponsored event, function or UPPO-related conference call, he or she (and his or her company associates) shall not engage in the following types of activities:
- Any illegal act or actions including, but not limited to, bribes, kickbacks, and verbal or written sexual and racial harassment.
- Any activity that would represent an actual or perceived conflict of interest between the UPPO and the service provider. This would include, but is not limited to, the unauthorized soliciting of business by a service provider or another employee from their company with current or potential UPPO members or service providers.
II. Service providers agree that an UPPO membership list, UPPO logo, or any other UPPO-related property shall not be used by the service provider for any purpose without prior written consent of the UPPO Board.
III. Service providers, when conducting business at a UPPO-sponsored event, agree to:
- Not to use an UPPO member or event attendee list as a mailing or audit candidate list unless otherwise directed by the UPPO Board.
- Follow event booth guidelines/rules as stated in the applicable event exhibit agreement when the service provider has secured permission from UPPO to host an exhibit booth at UPPO-sponsored event.
- Solicit attendees at UPPO-sponsored events only at the service providers exhibit booth unless such solicitation or service discussion has been arranged prior to the event with the consent of the attendee.
- Avoid disparaging the personnel, products, services or presentation of a competitor service provider.
- Not quote a member's comments on advertisements such as, but not limited to, fliers, handouts, leaflets, video or websites without the written consent of that member. Upon written consent, such an endorsement or quote should reflect only the member's name and company and shall not include any reference to or insignia of the UPPO.
IV. Any service provider who violates any of the provisions of paragraphs II – IV above, and any other employees or agents of the company they represent shall be prohibited from attending, exhibiting or presenting at any UPPO-sponsored event or receiving or advertising in any UPPO publication for a period designated by the UPPO Board.
